Honda has opened a new motorcycle manufacturing facility in Kenya, which is expected to produce 25,000 vehicles a year

According to Kenya’s Capital FM, the manufacturer’s Kenyan motorcycle division chief executive officer, Yasuhiro Imazato, said the new plant would cater to the demands of the Boda Boda or the motorcycle taxi market in Kenya.

Honda researched the market for two years before deciding to set up the manufacturing plant in Kenya.

“For two years when I drove around Kenya, I saw a large number of Boda Boda riders and this is where I saw huge potential," said Imazato.

During the official launch of the manufacturing plant, Kenya’s deputy president William Ruto said the government planned on buying motor vehicles that are only manufactured locally in the coming days.

Ruto announced that the government is also working on laws to reduce cost of energy for manufacturers to promote industrialisation in the country. Kenya’s government plans to create 135 technical institutes in the country within the next three years.
