Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commemorated the completion of the first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line at the National Theatre Station

The completion of the first phase includes a 13 km stretch of rail as well as five stations and marks an important milestone in the delivery of the entire 27 km long Blue Line which will run between Okokomaiko and Marina. The project is being handled by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and is one of several lines which will make up the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system. It is expected to transport more than 500,000 passengers daily.

According to media reports, the electricity required to power the line will be delivered by a single, stand-alone power plant and will be ready for passenger operations in the first quarter of 2023. Three train sets for operations on the line are reportedly already on the ground.
