AGL Rwanda, a leading logistics operator in the East African country, has laid the foundation stone for the extension of its Kigali warehouse

Diego Aponte, CEO of MSC and shareholder of AGL, attended the official launching ceremony, flanked by Philippe Labonne, CEO of AGL, and Nicolas Sartini, chairman of the supervisory board of AGL. Together, they marked the beginning of the strategic extension phase which will expand the capabilities of the state-of-the-art logistics facility in the Kigali Economic Zone (KSEZ).

An estimated US$10mn has been committed to deliver the 5,000 sq m warehouse that, equipped with cold chain facilities, will enable optimal management of temperature-controlled goods. This will help meet growing demand for such services in the region, and will help to address public health challenges by enabling the efficient management of essential products such as medicines and perishable goods.

Committed to Rwandan development

In an official company statement, AGL Rwanda expressed how the new project is a demonstration of its commitment to the country’s economic development.

Roger Nkubito, CEO of AGL Rwanda, remarked, "This project testifies to the company's ability to implement innovative solutions to bring the Rwandan industry to the best international standard. It also represents a guarantee of confidence for the future of all our local employees."

Indeed, with its 21,000 sq m of bonded and duty-free warehouses spread across six sites in the Prime Economic Zone, the company has sought to prove why it is the go-to partner for local and international companies conducting business in the region.

"The symbolic laying of the foundation stone of this new warehouse marks a new stage in the development of AGL's activities in Rwanda,” commented Labonne. “We are honoured to count on the support and commitment of our local partners in the realisation of this project, and we are happy to continue our growth together, while contributing to the economic development of Rwanda.”
