Doosan and Bobcat equipment has played a key role in the extension of the Suez Canal that was opened earlier this year by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi

Otrac Heavy Equipment, the authorised dealer for Doosan and Bobcat equipment in Egypt, revealed that they supplied a range of equipment to the country’s defence ministry for extension of the Suez Canal.

Otrac Heavy Equipment chairman Hatem Ouda said, “Our machines have been taking part in this great project and are now considered a part of Egyptian history – this has been based on the trust placed in Otrac and the confidence shown by the Ministry of Defence in our capabilities.”

The Suez Canal is a major trade gateway for Egypt, as its the shortest route connecting the East and West. Around US$8.5bn has been spent on the extension of the canal. The main waterway has been deepened and ships can now navigate on an additional 35 km channel that runs parallel to the main canal. The objective behind the revamp was to improve navigability for ships and enhance trade between Europe and Asia.

Now, the authorities plan to build an industrial and logistics zone along the canal in the next five years.
