Air and freight company DHL Global Forwarding has signed a contract with Germany’s GP Günter Papenburg AG to transport its construction machinery to Ghana from Germany
Officials at DHL Global Forwarding said that 125 pieces of machinery and equipment including 15 bulldozers, 20 loaders, 10 excavators, 60 motor graders, 20 tippers and spare parts have been transported from GP Günter Papenburg AG’s Nordhausen unit to Ghana.
The contract between GP Günter Papenburg AG and DHL Global Forwarding states that handling of unpacked construction machines and equipment in the port of Hamburg, maritime transportation by RoRo vessels as well as insurance of the precious goods will be carried out by both the companies.
During a three-month period, five partial deliveries weighing 1,596 tonnes were moved. Eighty construction machines will be shipped out of Hamburg in Q4 2014, added officials.
The government of Ghana is reportedly keen to provide individual district bodies with construction machinery and equipment to enable sustainable growth and development. By providing machinery, the local bodies can develop the infrastructure by restoring streets, feeders and long-distance roads.

When the goods arrive at the Tema seaport, the Ghanaian Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development will handle the distribution of goods.
Before operating the equipment, GP Günter Papenburg AG’s staff will train workers to ensure optimal usage of the machinery. In addition, the German company will also train a local team in Ghana, which will independently carry out the maintenance and repairs of the construction equipment.
