The Zambian government has re-asserted its commitment to developing performance monitoring tools for mines to ensure that their business benefits local suppliers and contractors

Christopher Yaluma, the minister of mines, energy and water development, said in a recent interview with the Times of Zambia that he had issued a directive to the Chamber of Mines in Zambia to convene an urgent meeting between the mining companies and local suppliers and contractors. The chamber convened the meeting but has yet to report back to the minister.

“It is imperative to support the local suppliers and contractors and in doing so, the government has looked at ways to harmonise their relationship with the mine owners with the view to stimulating business in the mining sector,” said Yaluma.
