The World Bank Group has released its Doing Business 2016 report, which is an annual report on the state of health of economies based on detailed diagnostics of features both visible and embedded

The report ranks countries around the world for ease of doing business and this year’s report presents data for 189 economies and aggregates information from 10 areas of business regulation, such as starting a business, getting electricity, trading across borders and resolving insolvency. The detailed report also includes data on the regulation of labour markets, such as on-the-job training and unemployment insurance, but that does not form a part of the overall rankings.

According to the Doing Business 2016 report, the best performing economies have been those with good regulation that allow efficient and transparent functioning of business and markets while protecting public interest. In addition, the economies ranking high on the Doing Business indicators also tend to perform well in other international data sets, such as the Global Competitiveness Index and Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index.

Tables 1 below shows the rankings for economies in Africa region, respectively. In Africa, Mauritius ranks the highest with a world rank of 32.
