Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has opened its third international office in the Mozambican capital of Maputo

This move is part of the chamber’s strategy to reach out to the African markets and to promote the Dubai business community globally. The new office will provide a window for UAE companies wishing to explore investment opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa markets.

The opening of the international office in Mozambique followed the chamber’s trade mission to South Africa and Mozambique, which included a delegation of Dubai’s most prominent businessmen and decision makers from key economic sectors.

The opening ceremony at Maputo was inaugurated by Dubai Chamber chairman Majid Saif Al Ghurair, who also led the delegation.

At the ceremony, Al Ghurair pointed out that the new office reflects on Dubai business community’s heightened interest in the Mozambican market. He said, “Dubai Chamber’s business expansion strategy into the African market is based on the directive of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to solidify our bilateral relations and encourage business and investment with Africa.”

He added that Dubai’s non-oil trade with Mozambique in 2015 amounted to US$200mn, which is not significant in light of the potential of the two countries. He also called upon Mozambican companies to strengthen their presence in Dubai.

UAE ambassador to Mozambique, Asim Mirza Al Rahma stated that the chamber office will open up the doors to enhanced cooperation and mutual investment opportunities. He urged to expedite the ongoing negotiations for the signing of avoidance of double taxation, which would encourage UAE businesses to invest in the Mozambican market.
