Johannesburg’s Central Business District (CBD) has been named as the location of Africa’s first easyHotel

The easyHotel.com Rissik Street will be the first property opened as part of an exclusive 20-year master franchise agreement (MFA) between Lonrho Plc and easyGroup.

easyGroup chairman Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou said, “I am delighted to bring our first African hotel to Johannesburg.

“The city has a wealth of attractions and events of interest to both leisure and business visitors, and this new easyHotel will allow them to enjoy the best of what Johannesburg has to offer – without the expense.”

The easyHotel.com Rissik Street will be located in Johannesburg CBD’s famous department store Stuttafords, which first opened its doors in 1893, and prices at the new property have been set to start from US$29 per room per night

The low-budget brand has proved to be a successful addition to the hotel market in parts of Europe and the Middle East and Lonrho is set to extend the brand’s boundaries further by opening 50 properties across Africa by 2016.

Lonrho executive chairman David Lenigas remarked, “This new hotel project between Sir Stelios and Lonrho starts the roll-out of easyHotels.com throughout Africa.

“There is a large gap in the market for a quality budget hotel and the easyHotel.com room offering is ideally suited to fill this much needed gap across the continent,” he added.
