Nigeria has signed an MoU with China’s TBEA Co Ltd to fast-track the development of sub-stations and transmission lines in the country

Owing to an increase in the number of power cuts and irregular supply of electricity, the government is keen to strengthen the existing infrastructure and improve supply of electricity in Nigeria. The country faces trouble to generate even 5,000MW of power, whereas South Africa generates up to 50,000MW with ease, stated government officials.

Mohammed Wakil, minister of state (MoS) for power in Nigeria said that after infrastructure development, continued support is crucial to drive development of the sector, and urged TBEA to fulfil their earlier promise of developing a transformer manufacturing facility in Nigeria.

Sheng Shuangxu, chairman of TBEA Co Ltd, called on the Nigerian government to ensure the acquisition of relevant data and execution of necessary commercial agreements required for the bankability of the project.
