AMEA Power, a fast-growing renewable energy company, has agreed to develop a 25MW solar PV project coupled with battery storage in the Grand Bara area of Djibouti
The company signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Government of Djibouti to fully develop the project under a build-own-operate and transfer (BOOT) model. It will be the first solar independent power project in the country and will generate 55GWh of clean energy per year – this will reach more than 66,500 people.
The Sovereign Fund of Djibouti (FSD) will be joining the project before financial close as minority shareholder and the offtake for the project will be Electricité de Djibouti.
Hussain Al Nowais, chairman of AMEA Power, remarked, “AMEA Power is proud to reach this milestone and to be supporting Djibouti in its energy transition journey. East Africa is an important market for AMEA Power, as it is a region with immense potential for the development of clean, reliable, and affordable energy.”
There was a solar boost on the other side of the continent with the Solar Electric Light Fund revamping electrical infrastructure in Benin to provide power for vital systems such as water pumps and vaccine refrigeration.
