Private power generation company Globeleq has completed the 138MW Jeffreys Bay wind farm at Port Elizabeth in South Africa

The wind farm is located between the towns of Humansdorp and Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape.

Mikael Karlsson, CEO of Globeleq, said, ”The completion of these facilities is the result of a truly global partnership with South Africa, Eskom, private sector developers, investors, lenders, constructors, suppliers and the local community. It demonstrates significant support for independent private power producers in the region and indicates the sustainability of the renewable energy sector.”

According to reports, the wind farm’s annual planned production is 460GWh and provide power to 100,000 South African households. More than 700 employees worked on the site of the wind farm, with 45 per cent being locals.

Earlier in April this year, two other solar facilities — a 50MW De Aar and a 50MW Droogfontein — were completed by Globeleq on the Northern Cape of the country.
