Nigeria’s federal government has signed a US$23 million deal with Manitoba Hydro International (MHI) to improve power transmission in the West African country
The deal will see MHI, a Canadian company, overhaul the Transmission Company of Nigeria, with the eventual aim of partially privatising it, according to Agence France-Presse.
“MHI expects to turn TCN into a technically and financially efficient, stable, and sustainable company, a company that will be market-driven and capable of utilising its maximum generation capacity and then distributing the energy throughout Nigeria,” said MHI.
Bolanle Onagoruwa, the head of Nigeria’s Bureau of Public Enterprises, told reporters that the contract was worth $23 million.
