GTZ projects in Ethiopia include developing solar, hydroelectric and wind power systems. The new solar systems will serve as backups in areas where electricity is already available, and as sources of energy in areas where electricity is not available. The GTZ project Access to Modern Energy Service Ethiopia (AMES-E) is planning to set up photovoltaic systems in 100 areas that are currently not connected to the national grid, with priority given to public health centres in remote areas.
