Caterpillar has entered into an international power projects (IPP) agreement with Saudi Arabia-based Zahid Group’s subsidiary company, Altaaqa Global, which will ensure an increase in electricity generation across the African continent within weeks
The power deal will also target increased power generation in the Middle East, North Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific region.
As part of the agreement, Altaaqa Global will provide multi-megawatt temporary power solutions to sites across the world, supported by partnerships within the worldwide Caterpillar dealer network.
Zahid Group executive vice president Fahad Y Zahid said, “We have been serving our customers within Saudi Arabia since our inception. In 2004, we launched Altaaqa Alternative Solutions, which became the fleet owner of Cat Rental Power with more than 750MW in its inventory.
“Through this IPP agreement, our new subsidiary, Altaaqa Global, will enable us to strengthen our position as a provider of turnkey temporary power solutions at a global level.”
Caterpillar power generation consultants and a specialised power generation team from Altaaqa Global will ensure that the technical and logistical aspects of projects are addressed effectively and efficiently.
Altaaqa Global managing director Steven Meyrick commented, “Caterpillar’s global presence and Altaaqa Global’s temporary power expertise is a powerful synergy. Bringing power to solutions is what we are offering.”
Peter den Boogert, business development general manager at Altaaqa Global, said, “Our temporary power plants are mobile, easy to deploy and quick to install and will intelligently generate electricity within weeks in Africa and the Middle East.”
